Tourism
Once dominated by manufacturing, The Mohawk Valley has been moving toward the technology sector in recent years. The creation of the Griffiss Business and Technology Park brought many hi-tech businesses to the area including the Air Force Research Laboratory which employs more than 1,400 in the region.
The Utica area is located in the core of the New York State Designated Mohawk Valley Heritage Corridor. New York State has budgeted funds to preserve, promote and celebrate the natural, cultural and historic treasures of the Mohawk Valley. Significant tourist attractions in the region include the Turning Stone Casino and Resort, National Baseball, Boxing and Soccer Halls of Fame as well as Enchanted Forest / Water Safari and the Adirondack Mountains.
Since opening for business, Sangertown Square's impact has gone beyond retail and shopping significance. It has provided major benefits to the Mohawk Valley's economy in terms of permanent jobs and taxes, and has served to stimulate local and regional business and industry.
